Celebrating Hampton Student-Athletes and the Future of NIL

The 2026 graduating class represents the very best of what Hampton University aims to cultivate: respect, professionalism, integrity, and community. Their achievements reflect not only academic success, but the discipline and consistency that define Hampton Athletics.

Among this year’s graduates are student athletes who met the demands of competition and academics while continuing to represent Hampton Athletics at a high level. Balancing athletics and academics at that level requires a level of focus and accountability few people ever see firsthand.

At this year’s Hampton Athletics banquet, student athletes across programs were recognized for the impact they made throughout the academic year. The evening honored their athletic performance and dedication.

The Growing Impact of NIL

Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) has created new ways for student-athletes to benefit from the visibility and commitment they already bring to their university.

At Hampton, the 68 Oak Collective helps connect athletes with brand partnerships, community initiatives, and experiences that reflect the broader influence of Hampton Athletics. It also gives alumni, supporters, and fans a direct way to contribute to the student-athlete experience at HU. Joseph Walters, Deputy Athletic Director for External Relations at Hampton University and a consultant to the 68 Oak Collective, emphasized the importance of the initiative.

“NIL gives student athletes the opportunity to be recognized for the work they’ve already been putting in for years. It’s about creating support systems that help athletes grow not only during their time at Hampton, but long after graduation. Outside of the collective, the athletics banquet reflects the culture Hampton Athletics continues to build,” said Walters. “It brings attention to the impact student-athletes have made throughout their time here.”

At an HBCU like Hampton University, that support carries even greater significance. It reinforces a longstanding legacy of excellence while helping student-athletes access resources that continue to reshape college athletics.

Supporting the Next Generation of Athletes

The student athletes recognized this year represent a standard that extends far beyond competition. Their impact can be felt across campus, throughout the HU community, and in the example they continue to set for the next generation.
